NAIROBI, April 10 (AFP) - Government troops have contained the advance of Rwandan rebels marching on Kigali to "restore order," a Rwandan diplomat said here Sunday.
Frontlines between government forces and the Tutsi minority Rwanda Patriotic Front who left their strongholds in northern Rwanda Saturday are stable, said the diplomat citing Rwandan military intelligence sources.
The two sides clashed in several places Saturday and were facing each other, he said speaking on condition of anonymity.
Rebels who infiltrated Kigali province but not the capital itself were "dispersed by the population" south of Buyoga.
Civil war in Rwanda flared again Wednesday after presidents Juvenal Habyarimana of Rwanda and Cyprien Ntaryamira of Burundi were killed with 10 others in an air crash, reportedly after being shot down.
