NAIROBI, Jan 14 (AFP) - The United Nations Special Representative for Rwanda Shaharyar Khan is scheduled to leave Kigali Saturday for Geneva to attend a UN conference expected to launch an appeal for 764 million dollars in aid for Rwanda.
The meeting on January 18 and 19 has been convened by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to seek the support of the international community for the Rwandan government's intended rehabilitation and national reconciliation programme following the recent civil war there.
During his stay in Geneva, Khan will also attend on January 16 a briefing by the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Peter Hansen on the combined humanitarian appeal for Rwanda, according to a statement issued here by the UN Assistance Mission in Rwanda.
