DAR ES SALAAM, Nov 30 (AFP) - The stalled fifth round of peace talks between the Rwandan government and rebel Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF) will resume in the northern Tanzania town of Arusha Tuesday, Tanzanian President Ali Hassan Mwinyi said Monday.
Mwinyi told a news conference here after a meeting with visiting Rwandan President Juvenal Habyarimana that both the RPF and the Rwandan government had agreed to resume the negotiations stalemated last week after a disagreement over the sharing out of government posts in a proposed transitional administration.
The fifth round of the five-month discussions on a peaceful settlement to the Rwandan conflict which started last Tuesday was temporarily suspended after the disagreement.
Mwinyi, the official facilitator in the peace process, said Tanzania would make sure that the conflict is resolved amicably.
Habyarimana who left Dar es Salaam for Kigali late Monday, pledged his government's commitment to peace in Rwanda and thanked Tanzania for its concern for well-being of its northwestern neighbour.
