PARIS, April 14 (Reuter) - Charities Medecins du Monde and Medecins
sans Frontieres said on Thursday they were sending doctors to Kigali to
help treat huge numbers of people wounded in ethnic fighting.
Medecins du Monde, which pulled out of Rwanda last Friday saying
violence made work impossible, said they were returning in view of the
considerable increase in the number of wounded
.
A team of eight with its own equipment was on its way to Kigali, and
another team was heading for Burundi to treat Rwandan refugees.
Medecins sans Frontieres, a European organisation that sends doctors
and nurses into war zones, said it had sent a six member team to Kigali
from Bujumbura on Wednesday.
Rwandan army units and infiltrating rebels battled in and around Kigali
on Thursday for the second day running after a week of tribal slaughter
in which tens of thousands of people have perished. Most foreigners
have left the country.
The rebels have denied a U.N. report they had agreed to truce talks.
