BRUSSELS, April 10 (Reuter) - Rwandan government forces and rebels have
agreed to a ceasefire in the capital Kigali and it appears to be
holding, the commander of Belgian troops serving as part of a U.N.
force in the country said on Sunday.
At 10 o'clock this morning, there was a ceasefire and it seems to be
holding,
Colonel Luc Marchal told Belgian television from the capital
of the central African state, a former Belgian colony.
The two sides agreed to a ceasefire...There is a certain
stabilisation,
he said.
However, occasional bursts of automatic gunfire could still be heard in
the city, Marchal added.
Marchal commands some 400 Belgians who are part of a 2,500-strong U.N.
mission in Rwanda.
