CAIRO, April 6 (Reuter) - Burundi's foreign minister Jean Marie
Ngendahayo on Wednesday discussed his country's tribal bloodshed with
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, the current chairman of the
Organisation of African Unitey (OAU).

The meeting coincided with a one-day summit in Dar Es Salam bringing
together the leaders of Tanzania, Rwanda, Zambia, Uganda, Zaire, Kenya
and Burundi President Cyprien Ntaryamira.

The leaders are trying to end tribal killings in the central African
state pitting the Hutu majority against the Tutsi-dominated army.

A week of fighting in the capital Bujumbura late last month killed
hundreds of people and drove tens of thousands out of their homes and
15,000 into neighbouring Zaire.

Tens of thousands of Tutsis and Hutus have been slaughtered in Burundi
since renegade troops killed its first Hutu president, Melchior
Ndadaye, on October 21 last year in a failed coup.

I have delivered a message from President Ntaryamira to President
Mubarak under whose term as president of the OAU the legitimate
government returned to power in Burundi,
Ngendahayo told reporters
after the meeting. He declined to discuss what the message said.
