NAIROBI, Dec 4 (AFP) - Eleven children were killed and 30 others injured when a grenade exploded in the central Rwandan town of Remera, according to an updated toll broadcast by Rwandan radio monitored here late Friday.

Officials in Kigali had reported the incident Friday shortly after the anti-personnel mine exploded in Taba in central Rwanda.

The children had been on their way to a primary school at Remera-Rukoma when they saw a 100-franc note on a string that was itself attached to the mine's detonator, the officials had said.

The mine blew up when they picked up the note.

The government and the Rwandan Patriotic Front (FPR) signed a ceasefire and peace pact August 4 at Arusha in Tanzania, ending three years of civil war.
