NAIROBI, Sept 26 (AFP) - Displaced people at a camp in northern Rwanda held 26 Rwandan Red Cross workers hostage for a day and a night to protest changes in the food distribution system, a Red Cross official said Wednesday.
All 26 were freed Tuesday after the Red Cross promised to look into the grievances of the 30,000 people made homeless by Rwanda's civil war, who live at the camp in Byumba district, said the official, contacted by telephone in Kigali.
None of the 26 Red Cross volunteer workers were hurt.
Camp residents were apparently enraged at a decision to move food distribution points to locations they found inconvenient.
