DAR ES SALAAM, Oct 26 (AFP) - Rwanda's government and rebel representatives agreed Monday that cabinet posts would be shared equally among all political parties in an interim administration, sources at peace talks in Tanzania said.
Political parties would be represented in all government ministries with each party contributing a maximum of two officials, said Ami Mpungwe of the Tanzanian foreign ministry.
After three weeks of intense negotiations on power-sharing, both sides have also agreed on the formation of a committee to initiate country-wide debate on national unity and disseminate political information.
A judicial committee will also be set up to draft a new constitution, while another will be responsible for organising the general elections.
The current round of Tanzanian-brokered talks being held at the northern town of Arusha has been a tough one with the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF) adamant on a firm assurance on a balanced power-sharing during transition to a democratic government.
The mainly ethnic Tutsi RPF invaded Rwanda from Uganda in October 1990 in an attempt to overthrow the Hutu-dominated government of President Juvenal Habyarimana.
After nearly two years of bloody war, both sides signed a ceasefire agreement in Arusha in July.
