BONN, April 9 (Reuter) - The German government is preparing to evacuate
German citizens living in Rwanda, a foreign ministry spokesman said on
Saturday.

The spokesman said the evacuation would be conducted in conjunction
with plans by France and Belgium to pull their citizens out of the
Rwandan capital Kigali as the country lurches towards all-out civil
war.

He added, however, that a final decision to evacuate had not yet been
made.

The foreign ministry estimated that some 175 Germans live in Kigali and
another 125 in the surrounding country.

France said 280 of its soldiers landed in Kigali on Saturday and 120
more would be flown there later in the day to prepare the evacuation of
French nationals.

Belgium has also sent crack paratroops to Rwanda as part of an
international force to evacuate foreigners from its former African
colony.
