KIGALI, April 7 (Reuter) - Presidential guards abducted three Rwandan
government ministers and three U.N. military observers in the Rwandan
capital of Kigali, U.N. officials said on Thursday.
They said the three ministers and their families and the U.N. observers
were seized by elements of the presidential guard amid widespread
insecurity since the killing of the Rwandan and Burundian presidents in
a rocket attack on their plane.
Three of our observers were taken today (Thursday) with the three
ministers and their families from their residences,
an official with
the U.N. Assistance Mission in Rwanda (UNAMIR) told Reuters.
This is a very serious breach and the U.N. leadership is raising it at
the highest level. Our military leadership is using the term that they
are being held hostage,
he added.
